Atlanta’s incomparable and resilient trans community is lighting up the city this Saturday, November 17, with Southern Fried Queer Pride’s TRANS PWR Fest, a one-day-only celebration of trans and non-binary artists, musicians, and community members at The Bakery Atlanta.

TAYLOR ALXNDR, co-founder of Southern Fried Queer Pride (SFQP), describes TRANS PWR Fest as a “one-day, all-trans event featuring workshops, an artist market, and a variety of entertainment.” With the fest, SFQP aims to “uplift, empower, and bring together the trans/non-binary community,” ahead of the Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20.

High femme musician Edgeslayer will be performing at TRANS PWR Fest on November 17.

“We created TRANS PWR Fest because there is a lack of all-trans spaces and events in Atlanta,” ALXNDR adds. “We needed something that was for and by the community—especially in this current political climate.”

ALXNDR emphasizes that, because there is a disconnect between the number of fully transowned and operated spaces and the vast amount of talent within the trans community, the creation of this event was timely and necessary. “Every single person that is performing, that is organizing, that is putting on a workshop, is trans identifying,” ALXNDR says.

The event will offer a fiercely diverse and queer-centric line-up—from workshops, skill shares, and Trans + Queer Yoga to an entertainment and variety show featuring trans and nonbinary performers, such as Edgeslayer, Haint, Royce Hall, JayBella Banks, and Tears for Dying.

Musical artist Haint will take the stage at Atlanta’s TRANS PWR Fest.

Empowered by the success of their annual pride festivals in both Atlanta and Durham, North Carolina, the team behind SFQP hopes to make TRANS PWR Fest into an annual event.

As always, there is a sliding scale door cover (from $5-$20) to ensure that no one is turned away for lack of funds. All door profits will go toward paying artists, and a portion will be donated to local Atlanta trans-led organizations.

Cisgender people are welcome to attend, but are asked to be respectful and to not take up space. For more information and to purchase pre-sale tickets, click here. For future SFQP happenings, follow Southern Fried Queer Pride on Facebook and Instagram.
